Artist Tomokazu Kawasumi - Unique works created from the warmth of Kasama clay and metallic glazes

Tomokazu Kawasumi was born in Hokota City, Ibaraki Prefecture, in 1996, and has been familiar with craftsmanship since childhood. After graduating from the Ceramic Arts course in the Department of Traditional Crafts, Faculty of Crafts, Kyoto University of Art and Design in 2019, he deepened his knowledge and skills in traditional crafts, further strengthening his passion for pottery.
To further his studies, he completed the Ceramic Arts Department at the Ibaraki Prefectural Kasama College of Ceramic Art in 2021, and subsequently trained at the prestigious Kasama Ware kiln "Otsu Akira Gama." While inheriting the traditional techniques of Kasama Ware, he continued to explore his own artistic style.
In 2023, he became independent in Kasama City, Ibaraki Prefecture, establishing his own studio. He creates unique works that combine the inherent warmth of Kasama clay with metallic glazes.
Currently, he is a wonderful artist who balances his pottery work with social contributions, such as exhibiting his pieces at charity auctions.

Additionally, his original metallic glazes create a profound and refined luster, despite being ceramic. This brilliance adds new charm to the "vessels'" expressions and brings an elegant atmosphere to the dining table.
Tomokazu Kawasumi considers his "vessels" to be "supporting actors for food." Therefore, he pays meticulous attention not only to the shape and size but also to the color and texture of the glaze, pursuing designs that naturally harmonize with any dish.
