Artist: Hirotaka Tobimatsu - Creating warm spaces and vessels with Tobimatsu Toki

Born in Saga Prefecture in 1980, currently residing in Tokyo. Hirotaka Tobimatsu produces works primarily using cast porcelain under the name "Tobimatsu Toki." He graduated from Tama Art University's Ceramics Program in the Department of Crafts. Utilizing his experience in sculptural molding during his studies, he began creating "vessels" using the slip-casting technique. After working as an assistant for ceramic artists Takehiko Higuchi and Maiko Ogawa, he became independent.

The greatest characteristic of Hirotaka Tobimatsu's works is their ability to create warm spaces interwoven with light and shadow. Designs that leverage the translucency of porcelain possess a "retro modern" atmosphere that is both nostalgic and fresh. His diverse works, including lampshades, "vessels," and vases, embody a delicate beauty within their simplicity, gently illuminating everyday living spaces. They are also used in the lighting fixtures at the nokaze store, radiating a presence that enriches the entire space.

Simple and modern vessels that maximize the translucency of Tobimatsu Toki's porcelain

Hirotaka Tobimatsu's works are characterized by his technique of maximizing the translucency of porcelain. Using the slip-casting method, Tobimatsu pours liquid porcelain clay into plaster molds, achieving uniform, smooth shapes and beautiful translucency. A distinctive feature is his use of specially adjusted porcelain clay to create a delicate texture that allows more light to pass through than conventional porcelain.

His lampshades, in particular, are captivating for their design, where the soft light illuminating in the dark gently envelops the entire space, creating a modern yet somewhat nostalgic impression. Furthermore, his plates and bowls combine durability suitable for everyday use with simple beauty, while his vases are designed to bring natural harmony to plants and spaces.

A comfortable time woven with light and shadow

In Hirotaka Tobimatsu's works, a strong dedication to the expression of light is evident. He states, "Light is not just physical brightness, but something that brings peace to the human heart." True to his words, his works create warmth and rhythm in spaces through illumination.

His lampshades are meticulously designed, from the angle of light leakage to its softness, making them artistic items beyond mere lighting fixtures. Moreover, the subtle irregularities and delicate color variations on the porcelain surface create a contrast of light and shadow, expressing a beauty as if capturing a scene woven by nature.

Within this context, he creates numerous "vessels" using his unique techniques. Their simple designs exude a delicate charm, enriching everyday life. And these "vessels" are light and exceptionally easy to use. Once you use them, you'll find them irresistibly charming.

Hirotaka Tobimatsu's works illuminate daily life and create new value. Experience their charm at the nokaze store and incorporate them into your own space.
