Artist Hirotaka Tobimatsu - Tobimatsu Toki creates warm spaces and vessels
Born in Saga Prefecture in 1980, currently residing in Tokyo. He exhibits works primarily using slip casting of porcelain under the name "Tobimatsu TOKI." After graduating from the ceramics program at Tama Art University, he utilized his experience in sculptural molding during his studies to begin producing "vessels" using slip casting techniques. He gained independence after working as an assistant to ceramists Takehiko Higuchi and Maiko Ogawa.
The greatest feature of Hirotaka Tobimatsu's works is their ability to create a warm atmosphere through the interplay of light and shadow. Designs that leverage the translucency of porcelain have a "retro-modern" feel that is both nostalgic and fresh. His diverse works, such as lampshades, "vessels," and flower vases, embody delicate beauty within their simplicity, gently illuminating everyday living spaces. They are also used in the lighting fixtures at the nokaze store, adding presence to the entire space.

Simple and modern vessels by Tobimatsu Toki that maximize the translucency of porcelain
Hirotaka Tobimatsu's works are characterized by techniques that maximize the translucency of porcelain. Using the slip casting method, he pours liquid porcelain clay into plaster molds to achieve uniform, smooth shapes and beautiful translucency. To achieve a delicate texture that allows more light to pass through than typical porcelain, he uses specially adjusted porcelain clay.
Lampshades, in particular, are captivating for their design, where soft light illuminating in the darkness gently envelops the entire space, giving a modern yet somewhat nostalgic impression. Furthermore, his plates and bowls combine durability and simple beauty suitable for daily use, while his flower vases are designed to bring natural harmony to plants and the surrounding space.

A comfortable time woven by light and shadow
Hirotaka Tobimatsu's works demonstrate a strong commitment to the expression of light. He states, "Light is not just physical brightness; it brings peace to people's hearts." True to his words, his works create warmth and rhythm in space through illumination.
In his lampshades, the angle of escaping light and its softness are meticulously calculated, making them artistic items that go beyond mere lighting fixtures. Furthermore, subtle irregularities and delicate color variations on the porcelain surface create a contrast of light and shadow, expressing a beauty as if capturing a scene woven by nature.
Among these are numerous "vessels" created using unique techniques. Simple in design yet delicate, they enrich daily life. And the "vessels" are light and exceptionally easy to use. Once you use them, you'll find them indispensable.
Hirotaka Tobimatsu's works illuminate daily life and create new value. Experience their charm at the nokaze store and consider incorporating them into your own space.
