Artist Hirotaka Tobimatsu - Creating warm spaces and vessels with Tobimatsu Toki
Born in Saga Prefecture in 1980, currently residing in Tokyo. He presents works centered on porcelain casting under the brand name "Tobimatsu Toki." He graduated from Tama Art University, Department of Crafts, Ceramics Program. Utilizing his experience in three-dimensional modeling with molds during his studies, he began producing "vessels" using the casting technique. After working as an assistant to ceramists Takehiko Higuchi and Matoko Ogawa, he became independent.
The greatest feature of Hirotaka Tobimatsu's work is its ability to create a warm space woven with light and shadow. The designs, which leverage the translucency of porcelain, have a "retro-modern" atmosphere that is both nostalgic and fresh. His diverse works, including lampshades, "vessels," and vases, incorporate delicate beauty within their simplicity, gently illuminating everyday living spaces. They are also used in the lighting fixtures of the nokaze store, exuding a presence that colors the entire space.

Simple and modern vessels that maximize the translucency of Tobimatsu Toki's porcelain
Hirotaka Tobimatsu's works are characterized by techniques that maximize the translucency of porcelain. In the casting method used by Hirotaka Tobimatsu, liquid porcelain clay is poured into plaster molds to achieve a uniform, smooth shape and beautiful translucency. It is also distinctive that he uses specially adjusted porcelain clay to create a delicate texture that allows more light to pass through than ordinary porcelain.
Lampshades, in particular, are appealing for their design where the soft light emitted in the dark gently envelops the entire space, giving a contemporary yet somewhat nostalgic impression. Furthermore, plates and bowls combine durability suitable for everyday use with simple beauty, and vases are designed to bring natural harmony to plants and spaces.

A comfortable time woven by light and shadow
Hirotaka Tobimatsu's works show a strong commitment to the expression of light. He states, "Light is not just physical brightness, but something that brings peace to people's hearts." True to his words, his works create warmth and rhythm in space through illumination.
In his lampshades, the angle of emitted light and its softness are meticulously calculated, making them artistic items that go beyond mere lighting fixtures. Additionally, the subtle unevenness and delicate colors on the porcelain surface create a contrast of light and shadow, expressing a beauty as if a natural landscape has been captured.
Among these, numerous "vessels" are created using unique techniques. Simple designs yet full of delicate beauty, they enrich daily life. And the "vessels" are light and exceptionally easy to use. Once you use them, you'll find them indispensable.
Hirotaka Tobimatsu's works illuminate daily life and create new value. Experience their charm at the nokaze store and incorporate them into your own space.
